Congratulations are due to Mike Krzyzewski, as the Duke University head coach surpassed Bob Knight to became the winningist basketball coach in NCAA history with 903 victories.
‘Coach K’ has a remarkable streak of 28 consecutive years posting a winning record (and counting). His list of accomplishments includes four national championships, one olympic gold medal and three Naithsmith Coach of the Year honors.
Krzyzewski’s greatness extends beyond the court though, as Duke boasts a supurb graduation rate of its student-athletes. Unlike Knight or recently fired, record-setting Penn State coach Joe Paterno, thus far, Krzyzewski has operated a scandal-free program. The only major scandal to come out of Durham was Quinn Snyder and that was on Mizzou’s watch.
Still, the trouble-free Dukies have garnered plenty of hate from the college basketball world for their clean-cut image. But the coach’s winning legacy is unmatched, including stars such as Grant Hill, Elton Brand, Christian Laettner and St. Louis’ own Chris Carrawell.
At just age 64, and no signs of slowing down, Coack K seems destined to leave his record far out of reach for quite some time.
