With news that NBA commish David Stern finally approved a deal for Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets, a massive sigh was released througout the league. Paul was nearly dealt several times over the past week until Stern swooped in to use his veto power (as the acting owner of the league-owned Hornets).
Ultimately Paul is headed to the L.A. Clippers (yes, those Clippers) for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu and the Clippers’ unprotected first-round draft via Minnesota.
For a team who routinely leads in the league in best punchlines per season, the Clips find themselves on the up and up with two superstars in Paul and Blake Griffin. The remainder of their starting five also fills out nicely (as long as they can spray for injury bugs) with Chauncey Billups, Caron Butler and DeAndre Jordan.
Yes, the Clippers look to be a playoff bound team, even in the highly-competitive Western Conference. But more importantly, the Clippers will be an exciting team. Matching Paul up with two high flyers such as Griffin and Jordan are sure to keep them a staple on SportCenter’s Top 10. Gone are the days of the dreary, red-threaded step-child. The Clippers are ready to make some noise.
