Negotiations sometimes change very quickly for a number of reasons.

I announced a few weeks ago that Devon Alexander “The Great” would fight here in St. Louis on September 8.

But the fight will now take place in Memphis, which has hosted a ton of great boxing events in the past. And on Saturday, September 8, Devon will face the current IBF Welterweight champion Randall Bailey.

Bailey, (43-7 with 37 KOs) of Miami, FL. defeated previously unbeaten Mike Jones (26-1) on the undercard of the Tim Bradley vs. Manny Paquiao fight.

Devon Alexander is coming off two very impressive wins against two of boxing’s elite fighters in Argentine countrymen Lucas Matthysse and the great Marcos Maidana (31-3).

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer recently told ringtv.com, “This is a great doubleheader for Memphis in two weight classes.”

On the undercard of the Alexander vs. Bailey bout, Lucus Matthysee will fight hard-hitting Nigerian southpaw Olusegun Ajose (30-0) 14 KO’s.

Randall Bailey is defending his title, and Devon Alexander trying to take it and become world champion again in that very competitive 147-pound weight class.

Devon Alexander is trying to become a three time title holder as well.

“We are excited about Devon becoming a three-time world champion,” said manager/ trainer Kevin “KC” Cunningham in a recent interview with The American.

“The city of Memphis has hosted big-time fights in the past, headliners that have featured ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr., and Jermaine Taylor, so I have no problem going to Memphis. So we would like all our fans to come to Memphis to see Devon fight at the FedEx Forum Arena on September 8.”

St. Louis will get a chance to witness Devon Alexander get an opportunity to become a three-time world champion with a win against Bailey.

So let’s gas up the vehicles, fly, ride the motorcycle and support team Alexander in his quest to become IBF champ on Saturday September 8!

Scotts notes

I have a couple of corrections from last week’s City of Champions classic preview. The first football State championship team for the East St. Louis Flyers was in 1979, which I was a member of. Second, former Flyer and Illini star Julyon Brown’s mythical National championship team was 1985, with the other was 1989 with Dana Howard as the captain. Lastly, our coach Bob Shannon real name is Robert, not Bob.

I wish Belleville East star hooper Malcolm Hill Jr. a speedy recovery. The All State performer is the best basketball returner in the Metro East this upcoming hoop seasoning.
