Manute Bol, the seven-foot plus Sudanese basketball player who played for a number of teams in the NBA, including the Washington Bullets and the Golden State Warriors, died Friday night.

The cause was a combination of symptons arising from a rare skin condition called Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which he contracted from medication taken while in Africa.

He was known for his shot-blocking as well as his humanitarian and political efforts in his native Sudan.
