Post-Dispatch baseball columnist Rick Hummel has been named winner of the Spink Award, and will be enshrined in the writer’s wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
The late Bob Broeg and Jack Buck have also received the award and Hall of Fame induction.
I don’t think you start your career thinking of that,” Hummel says in today’s Post-Dispatch.
You’re up there at the (Hall’s induction) ceremony enough times seeing other people winning, it strikes you as kind of nice. Grantland Rice, Ring Lardner, Jim Murray and Jerome Holtzman are there. Those are pretty good people on the list.”
