Columbia, MO – Incarnate Word Academy defeated Rock Bridge 65-41 to advance to the girls Class 6 state championship game and run its state-record winning streak to 130 games.
With the victory, the Red Knights advanced to Saturday’s state championship game against Springfield Kickapoo at the Mizzou Arena on the campus of the University of Missouri. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
However, all of that has taken a back seat as Incarnate Word head coach Dan Rolfes suffered a medical emergency after the game while leaving the Arena after the game. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains.
As of Friday night, the state championship game with Kickapoo will still go on as scheduled this evening as indicated by both IWA president Sharon Gerken and MSHSAA spokesman Jason West.
In the semifinal victory over Rock Bridge, junior guard Nevaeh Caffey scored a game-high 22 points while senior forward Zoe Best had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Incarnate Word is seeking its seventh consecutive state championship. Rolfes, 52 had just picked up his 700th career victory as a head coach last week against Troy in the state quarterfinals.
