Kevin Johnson was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder for killing a Kirkwood police sergeant back in November, where they recommended the death penalty. Today (Friday) a judge sentenced him to death.
Johnson shot Sergeant William McEntee in Kirkwood’s Meacham Park neighborhood in July 2005.
Johnson claimed he was in a trance at the time of the murder because his little brother had just passed away from a medical condition.
The defense argued the community would not want Johnson sentenced to death and plans to appeal the sentence
Johnson will be taken to the St. Louis Justice County Justice Center and then to the Department of Corrections.
