Cleveland Cavailiers star LeBron James plead no contest yesterday (Monday) after being accused of driving 101 mph on his 23rd birthday in December.
The plea was entered through James’ attorney in Medina Municipal Court, where Magistrate Charles Lawrie ordered James to pay $259 in fines and court costs, the Akron Beacon Journal said on its Web site Monday night.
The plea avoids a court hearing that had been scheduled for Feb. 11, when the Cavaliers play in Orlando.
James was ticketed by the State Highway Patrol on Interstate 71 south of Cleveland about 3 a.m. on Dec. 30. James later said he was heading home after the team arrived in Cleveland from New Orleans, where they had lost to the Hornets a few hours earlier.
