The McCluer North boys basketball team stopped Webster Groves with a 48-44 victory during the final seconds of overtime at Saturday’s Class 5 state quarterfinal playoff game at University of Missouri-St. Louis. They made it to the semifinals for the first time in school history.

McCluer North (24-3) will play Lindbergh (18-11) in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Lindbergh advanced after defeating Parkway South earlier in the day at UMSL.

The teams were tied 16-16 at halftime, before McCluer North took control. McCluer North led 36-24 with 5:20 left, but Webster Groves tied the score in the final minute.

The teams were tied 44-44 in the final minute of overtime after Webster’s Devon Dace made one of two free throws. Then McCluer North senior guard Brandon Thompson scored the game-winner with a soft kiss off the glass with 35 seconds left.
