Former McCluer High baseball standout Lance Jeffries was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.
A 5’9″ 195-pound outfielder, Jeffries is also a product of the Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club program. He was selected with the 320th pick overall in the draft.
“It’s amazing” said Jeffries on being drafted by the hometown Cardinals. “I’m just so happy right now. It really hasn’t sunk in yet.”
As a senior, Jeffries hit .457 with eight doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 21 runs batted in and 30 stolen bases. He was rated as one of the top high school prospects in Missouri by Baseball America.
Jeffries is scheduled to play in the Second Annual PNC High School Baseball Showcase, which will be held on Monday, June 20 at Busch Stadium. Jeffries will play on a team of Missouri All-Stars. The Missouri All-Stars will play against the Illinois All-Stars.
