Hanna Zavecz scored 21 points and Justyna Podziemska added 19 while grabbing 11 rebounds as Wyoming never trailed in defeating Missouri 73-67 on Sunday in the second round of the WNIT.
Missouri (17-14) went on a 9-0 run in the last 3½ minutes, making the score 67-64 when Alyssa Hollins hit a 3-pointer with 1:22 left, but couldn’t get any closer.
The Tigers tied up Dominique Sisk and got the ball back with a chance to tie, but Tiffany Brooks’ shot was off, and Podziemska rebounded for Wyoming (23-9). A pair of free throws by Jodi Bolerjack made it 69-64.
Missouri tried to go inside to EeTisha Riddle, who finished with 31 points and 12 rebounds, but Sisk tipped the pass to Elisabeth Dissen. Dissen, Bolerjack and Zavecz each hit free throws in the final seconds as the Cowgirls held on for the win.
Wyoming will play host to Oregon in the third round.
The Tigers were within 42-40 after Riddle hit a pair of free throws early in the second half. But the Cowgirls slowly pulled away, going up 57-46 after four consecutive free throws by Bolerjack. Zavecz had an alley-oop on a Sisk assist, making it 61-49 with 5:34 left.
Bolerjack — a Columbia, Mo., native who said she was “snubbed” by Missouri — finished with 15 points.
