Rams running back coach Wilbert Montgomery isn’t bashful in his support for use of more running plays for Steven Jackson.

That passion might have led to a quick skirmish on Wednesday between he and offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild. Howard Balzar of 1380 ESPN said it was described to him as “a push-slap.”

The Post-Dispatch’s Jim Thomas writes today “that Montgomery made contact with Fairchild with what was either a shove or a slap, according to multiple sources.”

During his regular weekly radio segment Tuesday on ESPN 1380, Jackson expressed disappointment over his lighter-than-expected workload against Seattle.

Both wide receiver Isaac Bruce and offensive lineman Adam Timmerman also are quoted as saying that the game plan called for more running plays and that they were surprised the team threw so many passes in Sunday’s loss at Seattle.
