The NFL Draft has now come and now has gone. And everyone, well most of us except my longtime friend/colleague Mike Claiborne, likes to give out their draft grades. So maybe, for the first time since never, I’m ready to give out a heartfelt grade for the St.Louis Rams NFL 2012 draft class.

I’m going to give the St.Louis Rams a B- for the draft. I could never give a team an A for the draft only because these draft picks have yet to play a game at the NFL level. Nevertheless, Rams coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead were active on days two and three of the draft. There was a little bit of grumbling about the Michael Brockers pick on day one.

Snead knew they had to make some moves or they would quickly alienate the fan base. The cries of having weapons for franchise quarterback Sam Bradford did not go unnoticed, on the second and thirds day of the draft. The Rams added Brian Quick (WR Appalachian St.), Isaiah Pead (RB Cincinnati), and Chris Givens (WR Wake Forest). Depending on how fast they adjust to the new offense scheme by Brian Schottenheimer, the Rams should improve on last season repulsive 12 points a game on offense.

Brain Quick is a smooth route runner and can get yards after the catch. Isaiah Pead runs strong to be 197 pounds and is hard to bring down. He has an extra gear and you can line him up in the slot and have both he and Steven Jackson on the field at the same time. Chris Givens is a flat out burner. He ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the combine and went over 1,300 yards this past season on 16 yards a catch.

The Rams also drafted a kicker and kicked Josh Brown out the door. Greg Zuerlein really impressed the Rams with his range and accuracy. Josh Brown was a Rams killer while with the Seattle Seahawks, and continued the trend, only thing he was wearing navy and gold. Also the Rams added an offensive lineman and a running back.

J eff Fisher added more pieces to the defense as well drafting talented Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson for the secondary. Then picked linebacker Harry Brown in the seventh round who might be the perfect fit for the new look Rams defense.

So, for once I like a draft. I know Claibs will shake his head at me. That’s okay. Had I seen him on draft day, he might have got a Roger Goodell hug.
