The St. Louis Rams were not going to kiss the ring of Robert Griffin III last Sunday. No way. Not this Rams team.
This version of the Rams didn’t send RG3 a kiss. It was more like a kick to the rear. The Rams’ defense harassed him. They hit him. They cursed him. They bloodied him. They gave RG3 him a true welcome to the National Football League.
Unlike the week before when Griffin had his way with former Rams head coach, now New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. That fed into the media hype machine, and even had a few clowns in St. Louis pondering, if the Rams should have traded Sam Bradford to draft RG3.
Speaking of Sam Bradford, he came to life as he threw for over 300 yards and three touchdown. He looked like a franchise quarterback who played with a tremendous amount of confidence. Given the current state of the offensive line, Bradford’s performance was outstanding. Could this be the start of a breakout season? Bradford also had one of his favorite passing targets Danny Amendola, who had a monster game catching 15 passes for 160 yards including a touchdown reception.
Running back Daryl Richardson continues to impress, after replacing Steven Jackson who left the game with a groin injury. Richardson got the crowd on its feet with a 53 yard-romp in the second half. As the Rams were trying to run the clock out in the fourth quarter, Richardson fumbled and the crowed groaned. So the defense was called on again to hold the lead.
So, for the second week in a row the defense would be called on to hold on for the win. This time, the defense came through. Not just the fourth quarter, but the second half as well holding the Redskins to just seven points.
Who are these guys? When was last time you saw the Rams not back down? When was the last time you saw the Rams play with this much attitude? Well, it surely wasn’t when Steve Spagnuolo or Scott Linehan was here. Even when Richardson coughed the ball up, the Rams were still determined not to give the game up. And they didn’t.
This is a fun team to watch and as the weeks go by, you shouldn’t be surprised if they are in every contest. That’s all you can ask for. So far, you can see why general manager Les Snead signed Courtland Finnegan, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, and drafted Daryl Richardson, Greg Zuerlein, and Janoris Jenkins. They are cornerstones for this franchise now.
For the first time in a while the Rams look like they are building something good. Like I’ve already said,”Don’t knock my beer over getting on the bandwagon”!
