The National Football League has announced that it has been notified that the Rosenbloom family has reached an agreement to sell its interest in the Rams. Owners Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez signed an agreement to sell to Illinois businessman Shahid Khan and his family.

According to the Rams, the transaction is subject to NFL rules, including approval by league owners, and the rights of Stan Kroenke’s entity as a Rams partner.

“Lucia and I are happy and proud to welcome Shahid Khan to the Rams family,” said Rosenbloom in a statement. “He is a man of achievement who we believe can make a great contribution to the National Football League.”

Shahid Khan released a statement expressing his excitement about the deal and gratitude to the Rosenblooms. It reads as follows:

“I recently signed an agreement with respect to the purchase of the St. Louis Rams. The proposed transaction is subject to approval by the National Football League and its owners. To that end, I am excited to begin the approval process and will, in accordance with league policy, proceed on a confidential basis and refrain from public comment. As a long time Rams fan and supporter of the City of St. Louis, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be considered by the NFL and am extremely grateful for the trust placed in me by Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez.”

Greg Aiello, Senior Vice President of public relations for the NFL, had this statement about the contract:

“Our office has been notified that the Rosenbloom family has reached an agreement on a sale of the controlling ownership interest in the St. Louis Rams. Under league rules, we will proceed with the evaluation of this potential ownership sale. The sale agreement will be reviewed by league staff and the Finance Committee. Following this review, the Finance Committee will report to the clubs at a league meeting. Any transfer of ownership in an NFL club requires the approval of three quarters of the clubs (24 of 32). This process can take several months.”

The Rams said there would be no further comments on the sale until it was finalized.
