According to a close source, Devin Alexander  “The Great” will be fighting Randall Bailey on September 8 at the Scottrade Center here in St. Louis.

Bailey (43-7, 37 knockouts) was featured on the undercard of the controversial Timothy Bradley vs. Manny Pacaquiao PPV event at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Bailey fought for the vacant IBF Welterweight title against previously unbeaten and rising star Mike Jones.

Many who follow the sport thought that fight would be a stepping stone of sorts for the younger Jones. However, Bailey shocked the boxing world by knocking out Jones, and immediately calling out Devin Alexander.

Promoted by Lou DiBella, Bailey, 37, last lost to the dangerous Juan Urango back in August 2009 for the IBF Junior Welterweight Title. Seven months later in March 2010, Alexander beat Urango with a 8th round knockout and brought the IBF title back to the Lou!

Of course Devin lost his WBC title against Tim Bradley, sandwiched by wins against Andre Kotelnik and Lucus Matthysse.

For Team Alexander, if this fight happens, and my close sources say it will, it will give Alexander an opportunity to shut up all the haters here and around the boxing world who say Team Alexander received a lot of “home cooking” during the Kotelnik and Matthysse fights.

But right now, Team Alexander is quietly waiting for the ink to dry for this fight to take place after the impressive win by Bailey against previous undefeated Jones. But that hasn’t been the case with the old but wise knockout artist in Randall Bailey.

According to fighthype.com, Bailey was recently quoted as saying, “My fight with the midget (Alexander) gonna be the first boxing match on the First 48,” referring to the hit television series which follows homicide detectives through the first two days of their investigation.

Wooo weee! I like that kind of talk from a man who may be coming to the Lou! Sounds like the old man coming to fight!

Said Alexander’s trainer Kevin Cunningham about Bailey’s boasts, “We haven’t been involved in a beef this heavy since (Cory) Spinks vs. (Zab) Judah.”

As the great referee Mills Lane used to say after his ring instructions, “Let’s get it on!”

Follow Devin Alexander and Team Alexander leading up to regaining the title right here in the St. Louis American. Devin is currently still trained by one of the best in the boxing business in Kevin Cunningham, and promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

Scott’s Notes

You think Lolo Jones’ complexion has something to do with the love that NBC has for her? She only was a Florence-Griffin/Joyner or a Gail Devers fingernail away from buying a ticket to London or watching from the crib.

Darren Sunkett and his East St. Louis Flyers football team open their 2012 season August 24 at Kansas City Rockhurst.
