Kawhi Leonard, the Most Valuable of the NBA Finals in 2014, the league’s defensive player of the year in 2015, still drives his high school vehicle – despite signing a $94M deal with the San Antonio Spurs.
According to an upcoming story in Sports Illustrated, Leonard’s preferred method of transportation is a rehabbed 1997 Chevy Tahoe nicknamed “Gas Guzzler.”
The car is only a few years younger than he is.
According to Sports Illustrated, Leonard once drove the same Tahoe across Southern California’s Inland Empire as a teenager.
“It runs,” Leonard said. “And it’s paid off.”
Leonard has a well-earned reputation for being frugal.
According to the Sports Illustrated story, Leonard, after signing his near ten-figure deal, was annoyed that he’d lost his coupons from Wing Stop, for which he has an endorsement deal.
Wing Stop gave him a new supply.
