This dynamic duo has the Flyers off to a tremendous start heading into the Christmas holidays. They have led the Flyers to an 8-2 record, including a seven-game winning streak entering this week’s action. East Side also entered the week in a first-place tie in the Southwestern Conference with O’Fallon.
Mitchell, a 6’4” senior forward, is averaging 14.9 points and 9.3 rebounds to lead the Flyers in both categories. While Mitchell dominates on the inside, Sain is the force on the perimeter. He averages 14.5 points a game while shooting 50 percent from 3-point range.
Both players were on their games during the Flyers’ 58-44 victory over Belleville West last Friday night. Mitchell led the way with 21 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks while Sain scored 19 points, while hitting four of his seven 3-point attempts.
Mitchell’s biggest effort of the season came in a 63-56 victory over Belleville East when he had 24 points and 18 rebounds. Sain scored a career-high 32 points in the Flyers’ 66-57 victory over Centralia last week. Sain also had 19 points, four assists and four steals in the Flyers’ road victory over highly-regarded Alton earlier this season.
The Flyers will be competing in the Schnucks Collinsville Holiday Tournament next week.
