Alana Gray

Hazelwood East

Girls Track and Field

The talented Gray was one of the top individual performers at the Class 4, District 4 track meet at McCluer North.

Gray took home two first-place medals, plus a second and a third to lead the Spartans to the district title. Hazelwood East scored 139.5 points and Gray accounted for 32 of those points by herself in four events.

She started the day by winning the 100-meter high hurdles, which is her special event. Her winning time of 14.78 seconds is one of the fastest in the St. Louis area this season. Gray also won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet 43/4 inches, which is also among the area’s top marks in 2007.

Gray also picked up points by finishing second in the 300-meter low hurdles and third in the high jump. A successful year was also completed when she was named the 2007 Scholar-Athlete at Hazelwood East.

As a junior, Gray earned two All-State medals in helping the Spartans to a second-place finish at the 2006 state meet. She finished third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300-meter low hurdles. She just missed a third All-State medal, in the long jump, by one inch.

Gray will be competing in the Class 4 Sectional meet at Chaminade on Saturday.
