Jamal Flowers, Football – Hazelwood Central

The senior quarterback enjoyed a big performance in leading the Hawks to a thrilling 45-38 victory over Kirkwood in a nonconference game at Oakville.

Flowers completed 16 of 31 passes for 355 yards and four touchdowns. He touchdown passes came on plays of 69, 71, 7 and 14 yards. He also added a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, which concluded a rally that brought his team back from a 38-28 second-half deficit.

For the season, Flowers has passed for 896 yards and nine touchdowns in helping the Hawks to a 4-0 record.

Hazelwood Central will host district rival Hazelwood East in a Suburban North Conference game on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Khalid Hagens, Football – Maplewood

The talented sophomore has stepped into the starting quarterback job and has led the Blue Devils to an impressive 4-0 start.

Last Friday night, Hagens completed 10 of 15 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns to lead Maplewood to a 42-18 victory over St. Genevieve. Hagens’ scoring passes came on plays of 24, 36 and 77 yards.

For the season, Hagens has completed 36 of 58 passes for 615 yards and six touchdowns with only one interception.

Maplewood will travel to Park Hill Central on Friday night at 7 p.m.
