The newest sports addition to the St. Louis sports scene is the women’s semi-pro basketball team: the St. Louis Surge. The Surge will play their home games at Vashon High School (3035 Cass) this season.
The St. Louis Surge are members of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League.
The Surge will feature several former standouts from the St. Louis metropolitan area. Twins Veronica and Victoria Smith were former standouts at East St. Louis Senior High. Center Tiana Ford led Gateway Tech the Missouri Class 4A title in 1997 and ’99. Former Vashon standout Laniya “Star” Stevens and Philadelphia native Chanel Ross were the leaders of Harris-Stowe State University’s NAIA national tournament team a few years ago. Former U. City standout Tiffany Foote was a top player at Columbia College.
A season pass is only $20 for the team’s home schedule. For season passes or game info, you can call (314) 968-8070 or visit the website, www.wbcbl.com.
