who will be playing in the Sweet 16, which begins

Senior Alex Tyus (Hazelwood Central) of Florida has been the Gators

leading rebounder in the tournament. The 6’7” Tyus had a game-high

13 rebounds against UCLA in the Gators’ 73-65 third-round victory

in the Southeast Regional. Florida will take on Brigham Young in

the regional semifinals.

Former St. Charles High standout Josh

Harrellson has been doing an excellent job for the Kentucky

Wildcats. The 6’10” Harrellson is averaging 15 points a game in the

Wildcats’ two tournament victories against Princeton and West

Virginia. Kentucky will face No. 1 Ohio State in the East Regional

semifinals. Former Gateway Tech standout Jesse Perry is a starting

forward for the Arizona Wildcats, who will face No. 1 seed Duke in

the West Regional semifinals in Anaheim. Former Washington High

standout Scott Suggs had some nice moments in helping the

University of Washington to the second round. Suggs had 10 points

and sparked the slow-starting Huskies to a 68-65 victory over

Georgia in the first round. Suggs added eight points in the

Huskies’ narrow 86-83 loss to North Carolina in the third round in

Charlotte.

On the women’s side, former Incarnate Word

Academy standout Felicia Chester recorded a double-double to lead

DePaul to a first-round victory over Navy last Saturday. The 6’3”

Chester had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Demons to a

56-43 victory and a berth in the second round against Penn

State.

It is always nice to see the local kids

getting it done on the big stage.

Congratulations to my collegiate alma mater, Lindenwood University,

on making it to the second round of the NAIA Division I National

Tournament in Kansas City last week. The Lions won their

first-round game against St. Catharine (KY) before losing to

Mountain State (W.V.) in the second round. LU finished a

record-breaking season with a 29-6 record. Job well done,

guys.
