The family of MLB Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn has filed suit against the tobacco industry over his death.
Gwynn’s family filed the wrongful-death suit in a San Diego Superior Court against multiple tobacco companies. The family claims that Gwynn, who died in June 2014 of salivary gland cancer, was manipulated into an eventually fatal smokeless tobacco addiction.
The complaint requests a jury trial relating to negligence, fraud and product liability.There are no damages listed in the complaint, according to the report.
Gwynn spent his entire 20-year career with the San Diego Padres and was a 15-time MLB All-Star. He had a career batting average of .338 and won the National League batting title eight times.
