Jeff Weaver surrendered a solo home run to Ken Griffey Jr., in the seventh inning, but that was it as the embattled starter’s performance helped the St. Louis Cardinals top the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in the final game of a three-game series and the last contest between the two teams in the regular season.

The Cards upped their advantage in the NL Central to 2.5 games over the Reds when Scott Rolen slapped a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in Chris Duncan.

Rolen’s home run in the bottom of the seventh inning tied the score at 1-1;.

The Cardinals opened a three-game series in Chicago this afternoon.
