In what was supposed to be a year when the Missouri Tigers were reloading, it appears that things have backfired to the point that it has blown up in their faces.

The Tigers played a soft schedule along with a conference slate that has been less than stellar. With that, the Tigers have found prosperity not to their liking, as they have routinely found a way to give it up in the second half. Every excuse has been made on what is going on.

Missouri has been bad on defense for a few years now as they have been on the receiving end of some passing plays that have gashed them virtually every Saturday. So what do you do?

The cry has been to keep the good players at home or even become more aggressive in their recruiting in Texas. The bottom line is that Missouri needs to take a look in the mirror and they will find the answer on why they cannot crack into the top echelon on the Big 12, as well as the Bowl Championship Series. It’s time for Missouri to take the next step.

Saints crashing in

After a week off, we learned a couple of things. There are some teams that are worse than the St. Louis Rams. The other thing is the New Orleans Saints are coming to town, and they are undefeated. This thing could get out of hand Sunday if the Rams don’t watch out. The Saints are the closest thing we have seen to the Rams’ glory teams of the “The Greatest Show on Turf,” and they love to show it to anyone who questions it. The time off for the Rams could prove to be beneficial as they would have more time to prepare for a team that is capable of coming to St. Louis and breaking up all the furniture.

Scary Larry

Earlier this week, the Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with troublesome running back Larry Johnson. Johnson’s latest antics included using a gay slur towards the media and also on his Twitter site.

He also went as far as to question the credentials of his first-year head coach, citing that his father was one of the members of the story “Remember the Titans” as well as having a brief stint in the NFL. OK, then make Larry’s dad the coach then.

Johnson has had two good years in the NFL on the field. He has had five bad years off the field. It was time to cut him loose.

The NFL has too many people who have too much to say and do that has nothing to do with the game. And yet the league tolerates these acts. If you go down the list of bad teams, you could probably find at least one player like Johnson. Their talent does not out weigh their actions. I really wish the league would get rid of more of these losers.

The Cable guy

The Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable has become more known for his physical play than some of his players. It was learned that 20 years ago Cable beat his wife, an act he has acknowledged. Two other women have come forward to allege similar acts. He also allegedly punched one of his assistant coaches early this year.

The local authorities have elected not to press charges, mainly because the still-employed assistant coaches who witnessed the act have all of a sudden had a memory lapse. That is one reason why they are still employed, one would assume.

In all of this, the NFL has not said a word with respect to their no tolerance policy that has been aggressively implemented against the players in the league. Only the National Organization of Women has come out to say anything, and that has fallen on deaf ears. I guess because they cannot be drafted to play left tackle, they get no love.

While Cable’s initial act took place 20 years ago, one would have to wonder about the latest acts and why nothing has been said or done about it.

If there is a league of double standards, you watch it every Sunday. The call it the National Football League. Lets hope Pittsburgh Steeler coach Mike Tomlin never gets aggressive off the field. If its left up to the NFL, Mathews-Dickey would be the only ones that would have him.
