Oklahoma City is not a major league city, but it is going to be home to a NBA franchise.

St. Louis is a major league city, and it treats the NBA like it has bubonic plague.

Oklahoma City is about to reap some real cash benefit from the New Orleans Hornets. St. Louis – as usual – is on the outside looking in.

On Wednesday, the final details for the Hornets “temporary” move to Oklahoma City were scheduled to be ironed out.

St. Louis obviously made no bid to bring the team here for some of or its entire home schedule. There is no reason why that team should be playing in that cow town and not the Gateway to the West. It’s ridiculous.

St. Louis should not feel sorry for New Orleans’ sports franchises. The city should be trying to make a profit out of the fact that the Hornets simply cannot play in New Orleans. It’s as simple as that. The National Football League cared so much for the New Orleans Saints that it forced the team to play a “home” game in New York against the Giants. Now that’s sympathy for you.

The fact that the Hornets will play in Oklahoma City and not St. Louis is a testament to the fact that the city’s fathers simply do not want an NBA franchise here. Maybe it’s time to let that pipe dream go – or change the ancient mindset of the folks who run this region, starting at St. Louis City Hall.
