Powered by Allen Craig’s sixth-inning pitch hit RBI, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 in Game 1 of the 2011 World Series.
In a battle of high-octane offenses, the starting pitchers from both teams did a good job of keeping the scores low and the drama high. However, in the end, it was Redbird pitcher Chris Carpenter walking away with the victory, after allowing only two runs in six innings, and with the help of another lights out performance by the bullpen.
Cardinals outfielder Lance Berkman drove in the other two runs on a RBI single in the fourth. Rangers catcher Mike Napoli responded with a two-run blast in the fifth-inning, but Craig’s RBI proved to be the difference.
Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05 CST.
