“font-size: 9pt;”>Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder and Yuniesky

Betancourt each drove in two runs in the 5th inning as the

Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals in Game One of the

National League Championship Series, 9-6.

“font-size: 9pt;”>St. Louisan David Freese belted a three-run homer

in the fourth to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead at that

point.

“font-size: 9pt;”>Lance Berkman drove in Rafael Furcal in the 5th

to make it 5-2 before things unraveled for Cards starter Jaime

“font-size: 9pt;”>Braun doubled to cut the Brewer deficit to 5-4,

his second extra base hit and third and fourth RBI’s of the game.

Cards manager Tony La Russa left Garcia in to face the

lefty-swinging Fielder, and on the first pitch Fielder smashed a

line drive homer to right to put Milwaukee in front.

“font-size: 9pt;”>Garcia was then replaced by righthander Octavio

Dotel.  La Russa went in the face of the stats that showed Dotel

had retired the Braun-Fielder combination 12-out-of-16 times with

12 strikeouts.

“font-size: 9pt;”>Once in the game, Dotel wasn’t able to stop the

bleeding.

“margin: 0in 0in 0pt; line-height: normal;”>

“font-size: 9pt;”>Rickie Weeks hit a shot that went off Dotel.  The

righthander fielded it and threw wildly past Albert Pujols,

allowing Weeks to reach second.  Betancourt fell behind in the

count 1-and-2 and then smashed a hanging breaking pitch out of the

park for an 8-5 Brewers lead.
