Pat McCaw

Congratulations go out to St. Louisan Patrick McCaw, who became the newest member of the Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors after last week’s National Basketball Association Draft.

A 6’6” guard, McCaw was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the No. 38 pick in the draft. His rights were soon sold to the Warriors, who were looking for more length on defense and perimeter shooting.

McCaw played two years of collegiate basketball at UNLV, where he was one of the top players in the Mountain West Conference. As a freshman in 2015, McCaw was selected to the MWC All-Freshman Team. As a sophomore, McCaw averaged 14.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 steals for the Runnin’ Rebels. He also shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range.

McCaw was a former standout prep player at CBC, earning All Metro Catholic Conference honors in 2012 and 2013. He finished up his prep career at Montrose Christian in Maryland.

Carte’Are Gordon goes abroad

Webster Groves High basketball standout Carte’are Gordon was selected to the USA Basketball U17 National team.

A 6’8” power forward, Gordon is a member of the team is currently playing in the FIBA U17 World Championships in Spain. As of press time, the USA team is 3-0 entering the round of 16 on Thursday. After three games, Gordon is averaging 11 points and shooting 60 percent from the field.

Gordon has spent the summer playing for the MoKan Elite 17U squad on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League grassroots circuit. Gordon averaged 10 points and seven rebounds a game in helping lead MoKan Elite to a berth in the Nike Peach Jam in South Augusta, S.C. from July 6-10.

St. Louis Eagles head to Augusta 

The St. Louis Eagles 17U basketball team will be headed to the prestigious Nike Peach Jam in South Augusta, S.C. next week. The Eagles qualified for the Peach Jam by amassing an 11-5 record in the Nike EYBL against some of the best talent in the country. The Eagles are led by 6’4” forward Jordan Goodwin of Belleville Althoff. Goodwin was one of the most dominant players in the EYBL during the spring. He earned several new scholarship offers from major NCAA Division I schools.

Joining Goodwin on the Eagles are Brandon McKissic (SLUH), Reginald Crawford (Chaminade), Richard Henderson (Pattonville), Jerimiah Tillmon (East St. Louis/ La Lumiere), Jericole Hellems (Chaminade), Darius Garland (Nashville, TN), Thomas Dutton (Columbia Hickman), Silas Adheke (Chattanooga, TN), Tim Finke (Champaign, IL).
