The Highland Shootout is annually one of the top one-day basketball showcase events in the Midwest.
In recent years, the event has featured future NBA players such as Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics (Chaminade), Michael Porter Jr. of the Denver Nuggets (Father Tolton Catholic), Jordan Goodwin of the Phoenix Suns (Belleville Althoff), Caleb Love of the Portland Trail Blazers (CBC) and Jaylen Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks (Nicolet, Wisconsin).
This year’s Highland Shootout again promises to be a star-studded event, featuring top players and teams from the St. Louis metro area as well as Illinois, Indiana and California. The seven-game shootout will be held Saturday at Highland High School, about 30 minutes from St. Louis on the Illinois side of the river.
Here is a look at the seven games in the Highland Shootout. The first session includes two games, followed by five games in the evening session.
First Session
Highland vs. Alton (Girls), 10:30 a.m.
The Alton Redbirds are having another excellent season at 11-2 heading into the new year. Alton is led by senior Kaylea Lacey and junior Madeleine Ducey. Host Highland enters with 10 wins. The Bulldogs are led by senior guard Jordan Bircher, who is averaging 14 points a game.
Highland vs. Waltonville (Illinois), noon
The host Highland Bulldogs are led by juniors Brody Cunningham and Carter Powell, who are both averaging 12 points a game. Waltonville comes from southern Illinois and won a Class 1A regional championship last season. Waltonville is led by 6-foot-6 senior forward Gage Peterson.
Second Session
Chaminade vs. Logan-Rogersville, 1:30 p.m.
This matchup features two programs that have reached the Final Four in recent seasons in their respective classes. Chaminade is again a contender in Class 6 with leading scorer Jonny Jordan averaging 23 points a game. Sophomores Elijah Poniewaz and Jesiah Buchanan are impact players, while senior guard Tricy Collins averages 10 points a game. Logan-Rogersville is a contender again in Class 4 and features junior guard Chase Branham, a 6-foot-4 Indiana commit, along with 6-foot-6 sophomore Titus Moore and 6-foot-7 senior Marcus Moore.
Cardinal Ritter vs. Fishers (Indiana), 3 p.m.
Cardinal Ritter enters the week on a four-game winning streak after a slow start against a rugged schedule. The Lions are led by seniors Oscar Patterson (6-foot-3), Ismael Isidor (6-foot-7) and guard Danny Winston (5-foot-10), along with junior guards Aiden Stevenson and Devin Rice. Fishers is 10-0 and ranked No. 1 in Indiana, led by senior Cooper Zachary (5-foot-10), junior Levi Walker (6-foot-4) and senior Kai McGrew (6-foot-8).
Vashon vs. Warren Township (Illinois), 4:30 p.m.
Vashon is 6-2 against a demanding national schedule. The Wolverines are led by junior guard Jimmy McKinney III, who averages 17 points a game, along with 6-foot-6 junior Leon Powell Jr. and senior guard Kain McCaskill. Warren Township features 6-foot-1 junior guard Jaxson Davis, regarded as one of the top players in Illinois and a Top 50 national recruit.
Principia vs. East St. Louis, 6 p.m.
This matchup features elite teams from both sides of the river. Principia is off to a strong national start, including a third-place finish at the City of Palms Tournament in Florida. The Panthers are led by standout senior guard Quentin Coleman, who is headed to Wake Forest, along with guards Gassim Toure, Kingston Money and Wyatt Slay and 6-foot-9 forward Sekou Cisse. East St. Louis is one of Illinois’ top teams, led by 6-foot-9 senior forward Jamison White, a Penn State signee, senior guard Alex Johnson, juniors Phillip Jones and Terriyon Webster and senior guard Devin Houston. The Flyers are coming off a Proviso West Tournament championship.
Webster Groves vs. Inglewood (California), 7:30 p.m.
The final game is a marquee matchup featuring two of the nation’s top scoring guards who also will be future Missouri Tigers teammates. Webster Groves is led by junior guard Scottie Adkinson (6-foot-3), who averages 31 points a game and was Missouri Player of the Year after leading the Statesmen to the Class 5 championship. Inglewood features 6-foot-3 senior guard Jason Crowe Jr., California’s all-time scoring leader and the first player in state history to surpass 4,000 career points. Crowe will join Mizzou next season, while Adkinson is committed to Missouri for 2027-28.
