Majority of the talk around St. Louis in regards to the St. Louis Rams has been about the North Riverfront project. The powers that be are doing their best to keep the public abreast of any new developments. There are some encouraging signs; however, it’s still premature to breathe any sigh of relief.
And while that process is playing itself out, the St. Louis Rams football team is trying to move forward and produce a winning season.
We are entering the fourth season of the Jeff Fisher and Les Snead regime, and it’s a good thing the season isn’t starting this Sunday. The Rams are like a twisted Rubik’s Cube and a riddle all consolidated into one.
Again, another offseason talking about getting better play from the quarterback position. It’s repetitive, predictable and boorish. As of right now Sam Bradford is the best option for the Rams. How good can that be?
Then you have a myriad of issues with the offensive line, another reason this team is stuck below .500 football. The Rams need to add three lineman that they can plug in and start 16 games.
All of the hype and bluster for center Barrett Jones have been for naught. He hasn’t done much since winning the national title with the University of Alabama. The Rams drafted him with the intent on starting. He’s yet to start a game. Undrafted Tim Barnes from the University of Missouri has played better than Barrett Jones and Scott Wells at the center position, but that doesn’t mean the Rams can’t get better.
I had an opportunity to hang out with former St. Louis Ram and future Hall of Famer Orlando Pace. Pace played a total of 13 years in the NFL and now works at KMOV-TV Channel 4 (with sports director Maurice Drummond) providing game-day analysis of Rams’ games, home and away. He was kind enough to come by the office and talk about the state of the Rams.
One of the keys to putting the Rams in place to have that great run from 1999-2005 was that offensive line. Since then the Rams have swung and missed from Jason Smith to Alex Barron. Pace was the anchor for the Greatest Show On Turf and we talked about it all.
