“font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;”>Now, that the Senior Bowl

has concluded over the past weekend, we can now start talking about

the upcoming NFL draft.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>This is the part of the

NFL off-season that gets you a little fix before the big kickoff

eight months from now. The countdown clock to draft day has already

been ticking. But, who really notices during the regular season?

And who really notices during the playoffs?

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>I know that I’m not

alone. Because, this off-season can be one of the most pivotal ones

in St. Louis Rams history. As we inch closer to draft day, anything

can happen. Most fans flock to message boards and play fantasy

general manager, and there is nothing wrong with that. Just do not

get mad when you suggest the drafting of USC tackle Matt Khalil is

wisest choice at No. 2 for the Rams and other message board general

managers mock your moves with expletives.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Some of the paid draft

pundits believe that Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III will

fall in the lap of the Cleveland Browns at No. 4.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>And there is already some

hype flying around saying free agent quarterback Matt Flynn could

wind up in Cleveland and be their starting quarterback. Then, the

Browns would select Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin

Blackmon.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>But, this is just another

scenario. Matt Flynn’s former offensive coordinator Mike Philbin is

now the head coach in Miami. So it would kind of make sense for

Flynn to go there and remain in the same system as he been in Green

Bay.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>That’s just one scenario

of maybe a thousand. The Rams are still fine and are in a win-win

situation. And if by chance they select Justin Blackmon, there are

more playmakers left to add to the roster.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Running back Doug Martin

(Boise State) has no wasted motion. He doesn’t dance in the

backfield. If he see’s daylight he will take off. Martin is also

elusive in the open field and can pass block pretty

well.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Wide receiver Brian Quick

(Appalachian State) is listed at 6’3 and 211 pounds. He can get you

yards after the catch. He can get up and get the ball. He can catch

the ball in traffic and you can trust his hands and his

speed.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Linebacker Vontaze

Burfict (ASU) is a destroyer. If he’s there at top of second round,

take him. He’s like Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis, and a healthy Shawne

Merriman all in one. His hands are like velcro if he touches you,

it’s a tackle or a suplex on the turf. Playmakers like these will

help make up for games played overseas.
