When coach Mike Davis took the Indiana Hoosiers to the NCAA Men’s Basketball championship game, Texas Tech coach Bobby Knight had nothing to say about Davis’ success. Knight had been eliminated in the first round of the tournament, while the man who replaced him at Indiana darn near won the national championship.
Well, Davis and the Hoosiers struggled during the 2004-05 season and Knight finds himself in the Sweet 16. So now tough-guy Knight decides to attack Davis, saying that he was going to fire him, but he himself was fired before it happened. He said he only hired Davis to recruit student athletes from the South.
Knight’s attack on Davis, and also on his former employer and its administration, shows that beneath the exterior of this tough guy is a scared little kid. Knight has never grown up, and he really doesn’t have to because there is always someone there (Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas, Billy Packer, etc.) to clean up his mess.
It’s good to be the king. Or in this case, a Knight.
