Floyd Irons’ record keeping at Vashon was so out of whack that Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce announced last week that it would be impossible to charge him or anyone else with a crime. Yep, money is unaccounted for and there were fundraisers and side deals that the district had no knowledge of – but so what, says Superintendent Creg Williams.
He said the matter is closed as he announced new bookkeeping scrutiny throughout the district.
Meanwhile, Irons was coaching in The Shootout last Wednesday at the Savvis Center, a day after his name was “cleared” by Joyce.
There are many people dedicated to improving the fortunes of city children educated in St. Louis Public Schools. Their work was diminished in the eyes of many residents of the region when Irons’ money issues were quickly dismissed as something that could be found at any school in the district, as Williams described.
Williams has worked hard to keep the district in a positive light, but the dark days of the past returned last week when he passed over budget malfeasance at Vashon like a spring breeze.
