With the arrest of two Duke University lacrosse players and pending rape trials, it seems like things are pretty bleak when it comes to race relations in Durham, N.C. – and the rest of America.
The pity is, if the cases go to trial, things will only get worse.
The alleged victim is black, a stripper and the mother of two children. The defense will put her, her reputation and her family on trial. It will be ugly.
The two defendants come from wealthy families and attend one of the most prestigious schools in the United States. The prosecutors will portray them as out-of-control rich, white princes who could care less about violating a woman during one of the lacrosse team’s legendary wild parties.
It will be black vs. white, man vs. woman and students vs. locals.
Thanks to the racially charged radio atmosphere in St. Louis sports talk radio, the drama will play out here just as it will in North Carolina and it will be just as hideous to hear and behold.
