The City of St. Louis reported 29new COVID-19 cases and its 86th death on Sunday, May 10.
The city, which remains under the mayor’s stay-at-home order until May 18, has now reported 1,513 cases.
Of the 1513 COVID-19 cases reported in the city, 996 (or 65.8%) were black. Of the 86 victims of the pandemic, 59 (68.6%) were black. Only 45.9% of the city’s population is black, according to U.S. Census data.
“African Americans continue to be disproportionately impacted by COVID-19,” said Dr. Fredrick Echols, St. Louis health director.
With 86 reported deaths from the pandemic in 1513 reported cases, 5.7% of the people in the city who tested positive have died.
