The DEA coordinates with state and local law enforcement agencies to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from medicine cabinets and households. After the discarded medication and unused pharmaceutical controlled substances are collected, law enforcement officers will destroy them. The national drug take back day also lessens the opportunity for pharmaceutical drug abuse.
