The St. Louis organization that provides nutritious made-from-scratch meals and groceries free of charge to St. Louis area individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS or under treatment for cancer spotlighted some of the people and organizations that stir up a recipe for success for the organization with its first Main Ingredient Awards.
The event was held Thursday, Nov. 17 at the Moulin Centennial Ballroom, just south of downtown St. Louis.
Retiring CEO Dr. James Kimmey accepted the Sustenance Award on behalf of the Missouri Foundation for Health.
Wells Fargo Advisors received the Nourishment Award. Washington University School of Medicine, Division of Adult Infectious Diseases was honored as a Plate Pioneer; and longtime supporter Paul Higgins was honored with the Hunger Hero Award.
KSDK anchor Kelly Jackson served as mistress of ceremonies.
Food Outreach Executive Director Greg Lukeman said the organization had surpassed last year’s number of meals provided in September. Funds from a raffle and onsite donations will help Food Outreach provide more than a half-million meals by the end of this year.
The organization reaches 137 zip codes in Missouri and Illinois. The organization says many of their clients are too weak to prepare meals, much less shop for food. Others lose their appetite due to the disease or medication regimen. Still others are undernourished due to poverty or because their disease has made them impoverished.
