1,500 mg of sodium is the recommended daily intake of sodium for children over age 9 years and adults up to age 50. That’s a little more than a ½ teaspoon of salt. Even less is recommended as we get older- 1,300 mg for adults between 50-70 years and 1,200 mg for those over age 70.
