The U.S. Army rcently broke ground for what is to be the nation’s premiere rehabilitation center for amputees. The $40-million facility will be privately funded and located adjacent to Brooke Army Medical Center in Houston, along with two new 21-bedroom Fisher Houses. The Fisher Houses will provide lodging for the families of the wounded warriors as their loved ones work their way through the recovery process.
Denzel Washington and his family helped form the cornerstone for the expansion project. A popular internet rumor had Denzel whipping out his checkbook and writing a check to pay for a Fisher House while visiting the facility last year, but in fact Washington’s gift came subsequent to his visit along more conventional channels. Still, big heart in a big star.
