Mattel is paying tribute to superstar Whitney Houston with a new Barbie doll. The company introduced the Whitney Houston Barbie Signature Doll on Sunday, August 9. Capturing her iconic look from Houston’s 1987 “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” music video, the doll honors the single’s historic success and anniversary, which is hailed as one of the greatest pop songs of all time. Houston is styled in a replica of the purple tank dress with colorful drop earrings and vibrant eye makeup she wears in the video, and is performance-ready with a microphone stand.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Dr. Pat Houston, who is the executor of Whitney Houston’s estate and her sister-in-law, declared on a radio interview with WSB 95.5 over the weekend.
