Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder has taken a longtime tenant to court after a decades‑old living arrangement unraveled this summer. According to USA Today, the music icon filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Oct. 22 seeking to end an oral agreement that has allowed Angela Efferson to live rent‑free in his three‑bedroom home since 1988.

The filing says Efferson violated the agreement in July when she refused to let Wonder’s team enter the property for a routine insurance inspection. After receiving notice of the scheduled visit, Efferson and Wonder’s attorney, David Huff, exchanged tense emails. Efferson accused Huff of using a “racist, cold‑blooded ‘white male privilege’ tone.” She said she felt harassed, and warned she would contact law enforcement if anyone attempted to enter the home.

Efferson allegedly failed to vacate by the agreed Aug. 27 deadline, prompting Wonder to pursue a court‑ordered eviction. His legal team later served a three‑day notice on Oct. 6, citing repeated refusals to allow inspections and noting the home’s insurance policy had been canceled as a result.

Wonder and Efferson were once romantically involved, but he has been married to Tomeeka Robyn Bracy since 2017. He is asking the court to remove Efferson and award up to $600 in damages plus legal costs.
