Film and television star Viola Davis did not accept the apology of retail giant Target for selling a racist Halloween costume.
Target issued a public apology for the offensive children’s costume on Monday, saying that they were ‘deeply sorry’ for the oversight and had removed the item.
Despite the apology, Davis, 61, slammed Target in a fiery post on the social media app Threads.
“Target, I do not accept your apology, and I do not believe that you understand the impact… the pain… the dehumanization,” Davis wrote. “These images laid the foundation and the ideology for every atrocity that has been committed against my people, We MATTER! You have shown us that you are not on OUR side.”
Offended by everything ashamed of nothing
It never ends. That was a stupid and insulting idea for a childrens Halloween costume. Somebody at Target signed off on it. Totally disgusting.
Aren’t we still boycotting this company? I will not shop there again; why did we stop is what I want to know. The call for a boycott was just, but to many cooks spoil the brew. Boycotts need to be planned, and those black vendors- I am sorry- this is a bigger issue than your pockets. But at the end of the day, we don’t need everybody
