Members of St. Louis-area Black fraternities and sororities are again raising money for the United Way of Greater St. Louis through the Charmaine Chapman Society’s annual Divine Nine Challenge.
The challenge asks members of the nine historically Black fraternities and sororities that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council to make or pledge leadership-level gifts of at least $1,000 to United Way’s annual Community Campaign.
Participants pledged more than $264,000 through the challenge in 2025. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. led sororities with $70,236, while Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. led fraternities with $57,367.
This year, the challenge will run through Dec. 31 for the first time, giving participants a longer period to contribute and encourage others to give.
The Charmaine Chapman Society, a United Way of Greater St. Louis leadership giving group, has more than 400 members. Of those, 117 also belong to Divine Nine organizations.
