A Cole County judge has ruled that a proposed constitutional amendment allowing Missouri to phase out its individual income tax and expand sales taxes can remain on the Aug. 4 ballot.
Opponents argued the measure violated the state constitution by combining multiple subjects into a single proposal, but the court disagreed.
The measure, known as Amendment 5, would authorize lawmakers to broaden or increase sales taxes as part of a plan to eliminate the income tax over time. Opponents have appealed the ruling.
