The May Department Stores Company, continuing a tradition of support for the Saint Louis Art Museum, recently gave the museum a $1 million gift to support a named permanent collection gallery of the work of German painter Max Beckmann. As one of the institution’s most generous corporate patrons, May has supported the museum’s collections and programs for more than 30 years. The gifts of Morton D. (Buster) May, a former CEO of the company and grandson of one of the company’s founders, helped establish the Art Museum’s collection of the German artist as one of the world’s finest.
