Lincoln University awarded preservationist Crockett Oaks III an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during commencement ceremonies May 9.
Oaks recently left his position at Missouri State University-West Plains to focus on restoration efforts at Lincoln School, a one-room schoolhouse built for Black children in 1926 in West Plains. The building closed in 1954 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
