Ameren’s responsibility to 2.4 million electric and 900,000 natural gas customers in communities across Illinois and Missouri is clear: Electricity and natural gas are critical in our modern world. People require energy to heat and cool their homes and run businesses and schools.
At Ameren, we believe we are only as strong as the communities we serve. For example, helping diverse-owned enterprises succeed is an essential part of our strategy. Ameren’s robust supplier diversity program provides equal access for all qualified businesses, including those owned by minorities, women, veterans and service-disabled veterans as well as LGBT-owned businesses.
We are proud to open our doors to the diverse business community with our biennial Ameren Supplier Diversity Symposium. With nearly 500 attendees in 2017, this symposium is an ideal environment for raising awareness of Ameren’s procurement process among members of the diverse business community.
We are funding scholarships to allow diverse suppliers to attend the Minority Business Executive Program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
We focus this same kind of dedication on building a diverse workplace culture where opinions are shared and the best solutions are put into action. Ameren’s commitment to diversity and inclusion works to welcome everyone’s full participation — allowing space for maximum creativity which drives innovation.
Just like those used by our own employees, Ameren provides free community resources on Ameren.com to promote discussions about diversity and inclusion. “Discussions Across Differences 2017” is a four-part video series, facilitated by Karen Foss, with selected leaders in the metro St. Louis community. It includes discussions with author and inspirational speaker John O’Leary; activist and civil rights leader Frankie Muse Freeman; Olympian Jackie Joyner Kersee; and professional dancer and COCA co-artistic director Antonio Douthit-Boyd. Each video comes with a facilitator guide, participant booklet and presentation deck.
Our company and co-workers also share a proud history of local involvement. We believe stronger communities foster a better quality of life for all through improved educational opportunities and sustained economic investment.
Ameren gives to worthwhile local causes through grants, scholarships and sponsorships.
Our employees generously support nonprofits through volunteerism, donations and local leadership efforts.
