USDA’s Equal Employment Advisory Committee and Civil Rights Advisory Council members prepare to host their 7th annual Diversity Day on August 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Federal Center on 4300 Goodfellow Blvd.

“Embrace Diversity, Embrace our World” is their 2013 theme.

Diversity Day is a yearly event geared towards promoting awareness and appreciation of EEO special emphasis programs: Asian-Pacific Islanders, Black Employment, Disability Employment, Federal Women, Hispanic Employment, Lesbians/Gays/Bisexuals/Transgender, Native American-Alaska Natives and Veterans.

Each year at least 600 employees pack out Federal Center Building 105L to receive inspiration from, and be entertained by, a wide-range of cultural speakers and performers.

Diversity Day also includes several exhibit halls where patrons can obtain information on a mixture of social topics and community services. Local vendors are also invited to provide a variety of ethnic goods and foods.

This year’s participant list includes the Griot Museum of Black History, Support Dogs Incorporated, Lupus Foundation of America, Susan G. Komen, The Empowerment Network, Mona Love Products, It’s a Gurl Thang, 1$ Blingz, Promo, Hoop My Bubble, Origami Owl, The Black Dragon Society, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Pappy’s Smokehouse, El Maguey Mexican Restaurant and The Sweet Divine Cupcake Truck.

This event is sponsored by the USDA-Rural Development and Office of Chief Information Officer-International Technology Service’s Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee, along with the Farm Service Administration Civil Rights Advisory Council.
