As far as big timers go in the Lou, Tony Davis (Nelly’s manager), Scott Rosenblum (attorney to the rich, famous and infamous), Rocky Arceneaux (pro sports agent behind Marshall Faulk), Les Bond Jr. (fiancial brain), St. Lunatic Ali Jones (who couldn’t make the party), Keith Bryant (Nelly’s road manager from day one) and St. Louis Rams’ Stephen Jackson (holding down Marshall’s former spot) are among the biggest. So can you imagine the blast of a birthday bash that they threw together last Friday at the Pepper/Nectar Lounges? Too bad it went down on the debut date of Plush’s A-List Fridays with host Larenz Tate. All of the A-List people were four blocks away rocking the Pepper and Nectar Lounges. But Plush is right back at it this week with singer Donell Jones. And for the 35 and older upscale folks, The Broadway (formerly the Waxx Factory) is the place to be. Anyway, at the b-day party, Charlie Chan was on the Uno’s and Dos’s, so you know it was crunked out. I just wish that when Nelly stepped up in there with Big B, Charlie had jammed a few more of Nelly’s songs. It’s only right. Nelly didn’t have a big entourage – just him and Big B. I guess Nelly knows he can handle his lightweights and middleweights now that he’s so buffed. And I wish someone would have asked Darius Miles what he and his boys were doing up in the Lou. At the The Longest Yard movie premiere he said the Lou was boring. He must have meant East St. Louis is boring. No, I’m not going to start dissing our sister city just because he was tripping. I love the East Side, too. Speaking of which, we all have to help sister Katherine Dunham. Back to the party, coordianated to a tee by Amit Dhawan and his Synergy national marketing, events, concepts and management company. When Amit has his hands in it, you know it’s going to be done up, hence The Longest Yard movie premiere and his work with the Grammy Awards, BET and MTV. There were tasty snacks, but my fav was the chocolate-drenched strawberries. Everyone got a blast from the five-hour open bar that feature A-B drinks and Grey Goose Vodka. They set it out like the big ol’, big-timing, shot-calling, big-balling, high-rolling aristocats they are. Speaking of setting it out. There were enough big butts and smiles up in Nelly’s face to cast 10 videos. When singer Mario walked in he got some play, but Nelly won out in the end. As far as the cars go, Mike Roberts won out. There were so many hot rides park outside it was like a carshow. I dug the short-dog Hummer, but the Mike’s Vanquish by Aston Martin left them in the dust. It’s the same car that James Bond drove in Die Another Day. I hear it goes from 0 to 9 in three seconds. There’s only about two in the Lou. Marshall had one, but sold it.
